INWR Autocross Practice

Qlispé Raceway Park

About this event

INWR-PCA Autocross Practice Event!

No Pressure. Just Pure Driving

Have you ever wanted to explore the limits of your Porsche in a safe, controlled, and incredibly fun environment? Now is your chance. Whether you drive a classic 911, a factory-fresh Cayman, or a Macan/Cayenne SUV, this event is built for you.

We are stripping away the high-stress elements of competitive racing—no car classes, no massive timing boards, and no loudspeaker announcers. This is a day dedicated entirely to learning your car and having a blast with your fellow club members.

The Details

·       When: Sunday, July 19th | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a lunch break)

·       Where: Qlispe Raceway (Smooth, clean asphalt surface)

·       Cost: $100 per driver (includes onsite lunch)

·       Eligibility: Must be a PCA member to register. Must be 18+ with a valid driver's license.

Debunking the Myth: Will Autocross Hurt My Car?

There is a common misconception that autocross is exceptionally hard on engines, transmissions, and brakes compared to High-Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) open-track events.

As your Driver Education Chair—with 35+ years of autocross experience—I can tell you firsthand that this simply isn't true.

While HPDE events push your Porsche to triple-digit speeds (75–150 mph), our autocross speeds are safely capped under 70 mph. In nearly four decades of competitive driving, the only real wear and tear I have ever experienced is on the tires. You will likely finish the day with nothing more than a bit of scuffing on the shoulders of your front treads.

What to Expect on Course

·       The Track: A simple, fun, and flowing course that’s easy to navigate. If you enjoyed our Driver Skills handling exercise, you will love this—it features a similar accessible design but with a longer layout.

·       The Pace: Cones are strategically placed to keep top speeds under 70 mph, maximizing smiles and safety.

·       Your Time: While there is no public leaderboard, you will receive a private time slip at the end of every single run so you can quietly track your own personal progress.

·       Maximum Seat Time: Drivers will be split into two shifts. When you aren't driving, you'll be helping out on the track. Expect to work just two 1.5-hour shifts (hopefully less!) standing up cones and calling in radio penalties.

Tip: If you are physically unable to work the course, please bring someone (18+) to work in your place.

·       The Payoff: Because our workflow is so efficient, we estimate everyone will get an incredible 10+ runs on course!

Event requirements

How to Prepare (Tech & Gear)

1. Vehicle Inspection

We will conduct a brief technical inspection in the morning. To pass easily, ensure your Porsche has:

·       Fresh, proper fluid levels (oil, brake fluid, coolant).

·       Healthy brake pads and tires with good tread remaining.

·       A completely empty cabin: Remove all loose items like floor mats (if they don’t snap down), water bottles, and radar detectors so nothing gets lodged under your pedals.

2. Helmet Requirements

Per PCA guidelines, helmets are mandatory.

·       Must be Snell approved (SA or M) with a 2015, 2020, or 2025 sticker inside.

·       Buying new? Look online for compliant options starting around $150. We highly recommend buying a Snell 2025 helmet so it doesn't age out of the regulations anytime soon.

·       Need a loaner? The club will provide 6 loaner helmets to share within run groups. However, if you plan to join us for future autocross or future HPDE open-track events, investing in your own shiny new helmet will make your day much smoother!

New to the Sport? We’ve Got You Covered.

If you have never participated in an autocross before, this "Practice" format is the absolute perfect entryway.

Coaching Available: We will do a morning course walk before runs begin and we will have a few experienced instructors on-site all day, ready to hop in your passenger seat for ride-alongs to help you find the right lines, smoothly manage weight transfer, and build your confidence.

Call for Volunteers

Standing on the pavement resetting cones can be physically demanding, and some of our drivers may need a hand. If you have friends, family, or fellow club members who aren't driving but want to spend a day watching/listening to Porsches on track, we would love to have them as volunteer helpers! (Must be 18+ and sign the onsite waiver). Extra hands-on deck means a smoother event and maximum track time for everyone.

PCA waivers must be signed by all participants.
